The New Yorks Knicks basketball player JR Smith has been fined $60,000 for repeatedly trying to undo the shoelaces of rival players during NBA games.

The league imposed the punishment after Smith attempted to untie an opposing player's shoes during New York's 89-85 home victory over Detroit.

He had already received a warning about such moves after he untied the left shoelace of the Dallas forward, Shawn Marion, during a second quarter free throw attempt last week.

Smith was standing next to Marion awaiting a potential rebound when he reached down to make his move.
