The chief executive of Hockey Australian Capital Territory, Terry Evans, has been appointed as the new high performance director for Hockey New Zealand.

The Hockey New Zealand chief executive, Malcolm Harris, says it's fantastic having someone of Evans' calibre join the team, and that he'll be a real asset.

Harris says he's confident Evans will help Hockey New Zealand improve its national high performance system, so both Black Sticks teams can win more regularly against the world's best

Hockey New Zealand's aim is to have both national teams consistently winning medals at major world events.

Evans will begin his role at the beginning of February.
