Phoenix sign new midfielder

The Wellington Phoenix have signed Central Coast midfielder Adrian Caceres for the remainder of football's season after benig released from the final year of his contract by the Australian club.

The 27-year-old Argentina-born Australian, was released by mutual consent.

He'll join the Phoenix on Wednesday and could be in the mix to play against Adelaide United in Wellington on Friday night pending final medical and fitness tests.

Caceres was instrumental in leading Melbourne to the A-League championship in 2007 but wasn't picked for the Central Coast opening four matches of this season and sought an early release.

Phoenix chief executive Tony Pignata says Caceres is an attacking midfielder and if they club is to make the playoffs they need to add depth to their squad.
