Djokovic wins exhibition match in Melbourne

Eyeing a fifth Australian Open title and a return to the world number one ranking, defending champion Novak Djokovic has continued his low-key build-up by winning an exhibition match at Kooyong in Melbourne.

Watched by his new coach, German legend Boris Becker, the world number two cruised to victory over Argentine world number 42 Juan Monaco 7-5 6-1.

Opting not to play in the eight-man invitation AAMI Classic tournament, Djokovic's match tagged on the end of the day's play.

Unlike his arch-rivals - world number one Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Andy Murray - Djokovic chose not to participate in an official ATP event before the Australian Open.
