Broncos dump Thaiday as captain

The Brisbane Broncos rugby league team has dumped Sam Thaiday as its captain, with veteran Corey Parker to take over the role.

Thaiday has lead the NRL club since Darren Lockyer's retirement in 2011, but the forward's form has slipped since, along with that of the team.

Thaiday says he was informed about the decision after he returned from Australia's successful World Cup campaign in the UK.

He says he's looking forward to getting back to playing the best football he can play, and still plans to have a leadership role within the squad, despite not having the captaincy.

He says he has every intention of staying with the club.

The Broncos struggled into the finals in eighth spot in 2012, and missed out entirely last year when they slumped to 12th place - their worst finish in the club's 25-year history.
