The West Indies pace bowler Jason Holder has signed on to play for the Otago Volts in Saturday's domestic Twenty20 cricket final.

Holder has previously played for Barbados and the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and the recent Champions League.

In 35 Twenty20 matches, Holder has 29 wickets at an economy rate of 7.33 and he's been brought into bolster the squad who will be without Nathan McCullum, Jimmy Neesham and Jesse Ryder, who are with the Black Caps preparing for the India series.

Otago coach Vaughn Johnson says it also means Holder will be available to play for them in the Champions League if they are successful in the final.

Otago will play the winner of the match between the Northern Knights and the Canterbury Wizard on Friday.
