Black Sticks lose World League final

The Netherlands have thrashed New Zealand 7-2 to win the inaugural Hockey World League final in India.

Constantijn Jonker scored a hat-trick as the Dutch side romped past the hapless Black Sticks in New Delhi, outplayed

Steve Edwards scored both the New Zealanders' goals but the game was all but over at half-time, when they trailed 3-0.

The Dutch stunned reigning world champions Australia in the semi-finals while the Black Sticks got past both Argentina and England in the playoffs with penalty shootouts.

The International Hockey Federation's newest competition opened with 54 teams in August 2012, and, after three rounds played around the world, the top seven joined hosts India for the title round in New Delhi.

England took third place with a 2-1 win over Australia, but the Kookaburras will return to No.1 when the new rankings are released.

Belgium finished fifth after beating India 2-1, while Olympic champions Germany ended in seventh place after a 2-1 win against Argentina.
