Arsenal have held onto their narrow lead in English football's Premier League with a 2-0 home win over Fulham, while Manchester City eased past Cardiff 4-2 to hold onto second place.

Fulham remain mired deep in the relegation battle after two goals in five minutes from Spain international midfielder Santi Cazorla got Arsenal the win over their London rivals.

Manchester City's defeat sent Cardiff to the bottom of the table.

Arsenal head the standings with 51 points, followed by City on 50 with third-placed Chelsea playing champions Manchester United, who are seventh, at home on Monday.

Liverpool had to come back to draw 2-2 with Aston Villa at Anfield in the late game. The Reds stay fourth but lose ground on the top three, now eight points off Arsenal and three behind Chelsea.

Newcastle United closed the gap on the leading pack with a 3-1 win at West Ham United with Yohan Cabaye scoring twice.

Crystal Palace moved out of the relegation zone with a 1-0 home win over Stoke City, above West Ham who lost 3-1 to visitors Newcastle United.

Sunderland and Southampton drew 2-2 at the Stadium of Light while Norwich City beat Hull City 1-0 at Carrow Road.
