Test openers Peter Fulton and Hamish Rutherford missed out on runs on the opening day of the latest round of Plunket Shield cricket matches.
Fulton managed just 18 as Canterbury made 280 batting first in Dunedin, in reply Otago are 47 for two with Rutherford making just four.
Wellington are 337 for six batting first against Auckland at the Basin Reserve and Central Districts are 109 for five in reply to Northern's first innings of 195 in Napier.
