Stanislas Wawrinka's Australian Open tennis win is being hailed by his country's media as a triumph of world, courage and humility.

The Swiss press hailed the "impossible exploit" of their new champion who has finally emerged from the shadows of his famous countryman Roger Federer.

28 year old Wawrinka, who had dubbed himself "the Swiss player who loses", is also being praised for his loyalty as he prepares to lead his country in their Davis Cup tie against Serbia in Nova Sad this weekend.

Roger Federer has always been reluctant to play in earlier rounds of the Davis Cup.

Wawrinka has risen to number three in the world rankings, while Federer has slumped to number 8.
