Black Caps fighting back on day 1

Despite the loss of early wickets, the Black Caps have gotten their innings back on track on day one of the first cricket Test against India at Eden Park in Auckland.

After losing the toss and being sent into bat, openers Peter Fulton and Hamish Rutherford were dismissed cheaply before New Zealand's premier batsman, Ross Taylor, was caught out for three.

At tea New Zealand were 179 for 3

Kane Williamson was 79 not out and Brendon McCullum was unbeaten on 71.

India's lanky pace bowler Ishant Sharma has snared two wickets for 39 runs form his 15 overs while the veteran Zaheer Khan has taked one for 67 off 15.

The start of play was delayed by 15 minutes by rain.
