The Highlanders outside back Buxton Popoalii has withdrawn from the the 2014 Super Rugby season to focus on recovering from heart surgery .
Highlanders general manager Roger Clark says Buxton has a longstanding heart condition.
Clark says says recent routine tests have determined he needs further surgery, which he'll undergo this month.
He says Popoalii will take a break from all rugby this year to focus on his recovery.
