Black Sticks play out draw with USA

11:23 am on 14 February 2014

The New Zealand women's hockey team has drawn 3-3 with hosts USA at the three nations tournament in San Diego.

Down 1-0 at half-time, the Black Sticks put together a strong second half comeback to secure the draw.

Gemma Flynn was the first to strike for New Zealand before the United States scored two unanswered goals to take what looked like a game-winning 3-1 lead.

However a late charge helped the Black Sticks level the scores with an Anita Punt field goal and a penalty corner from Sian Fremaux.

The Black Sticks had an opportunity to steal the win right on fulltime but couldn't get the ball into the net, the United States holding on in defence.

New Zealand has a rest day tomorrow before a rematch against Great Britain at 11am on Saturday morning (NZ time).

The three nations tournament includes New Zealand, USA and Great Britain and runs until February the 18th.
