Federer not so disappointed after shock loss

7:29 am on 16 September 2009

Roger Federer took it on the chin after his golden run at the US Tennis Open was ended yesterday by the 20 year old Argentine Juan Martin del Potro.

The world number one was visibly distraught after losing last year's Wimbledon and this year's Australian Open titles to Rafael Nadal, but he was typically gracious in defeat yesterday in New York, focussing on the golden summer which took him to an historic 15th grand slam title, and back to the world's top ranking.

Federer's confident his 11 double faults and 62 unforced errors were just a blip in his season.

The new champion del Potro made the final after giving Rafael Nadal his heaviest loss in a grand slam match, and the Argentine is now ranked number 5 in the world.
