Breakers playoff hopes all but dashed

7:41 am on 24 February 2014

The New Zealand Breakers have been beaten 95-92 by the 36ers in Adelaide, the 3-time defending champions playoff ambitions now hanging by the thinnest of threads.

After the Sydney Kings shock loss to Townsville reopened the finals door ever so slightly, the Breakers failed to take advantage, they've now lost all four games against Adelaide this season.

The New Zealanders recovered from a slow start to take a two point lead into the half-time break, but they couldn't shake the hosts who always stayed in touch, the Breakers Tom Abercrombie missing a late three-pointer that would have given the Breakers the win.

The Breakers are two wins outside the top four with five games left in the regular season and realistically must win all of their remaining matches to sneak into the playoffs.
