Wendy Chapman, the doctor involved in the Harlequins rugby club's fake blood scandal, has been suspended by Britain's General Medical Council pending a formal investigation.

Chapman cut the mouth of winger Tom Williams after he had used a fake blood capsule to force a blood replacement substitution during Harlequins England Premiership quarter-final against Leinster last season.

Harlequins director of rugby Dean Richards was banned for three years over the scandal, and the club chairman Charles Jillings resigned last month.
