Ref banned for punching

An Australian league referee has been banned for punching and been ordered to undergo counselling.

Gavin Morris, who has officiated in 46 first grade games, has been suspended for the opening two rounds of the NRL premiership after reportedly punching a Queensland Cup touch judge, landing him in hospital with facial injuries.

Referee Morris was also given a suspended $5000 fine.
