The New Zealand sprint team have taken the gold medal at the Track Cycling World Championships, edging the defending champions Germany in a tight final.

New Zealand trailed at each split, but a strong finish from Eddie Dawkins got them over the line first by less four one hundredths of a second.

Earlier the New Zealand men's pursuit team won the bronze medal.

The New Zealand team of Pieter Bulling, Dylan Kennett, Aaron Gate and Marc Ryan were too quick for Russia in the bronze medal race.
