Full home and away derby matches will end in future Super Rugby competition

A full home and away schedule for local derbies will disappear when the new format for Super Rugby is realeased within the next couple of weeks.

The new model for the future of the competition, which includes 2 extra teams, has been accepted by the New Zealand Rugby Board.

Chief executive Steve Tew can't reveal the format yet, but hinted that the competition will be a week shorter, there is likely to be less travel and there won't be a full home and away derby series within conferences.

Tew has admitted that South Africa's threat to pull out of the Super Rugby competition unless they got an extra team and less travel, has led to changes in the format.

The plan is to also include a team from Argentina.
