The All Whites emerged with some credit from their international football friendly against Japan last night, which the hosts won 4-2.

The home team opened the scoring in the National Stadium in Tokyo after only four minutes through Japan's Manchester United midfielder Shinji Kagawa, and they were 4-nil up, including a penalty, after 17 minutes.

Chris Wood scored both goals for the All Whites, in the 39th minute and 10 minutes from fulltime.

Japan's coach Alberto Zaccheroni credited New Zealand as "a very good opponent" for the last hour of the match.
