Wellington make football final

5:34 pm on 8 March 2014

Team Wellington have booked a place in the grand final of the New Zeland football premiership after edging past Hawke's Bay United 1-0 in the second leg of their semi-final.

Wellington, the home side, went into the clash at David Farrington Park with a narrow 2-1 advantage from the first leg and came away the winners 3-1 on aggregate.

Justin Gulley scored in the 90th minute after his team mate Cole Peverley was given a red just past the hour mark.

The aggregate triumph means Wellington have reached the 2015 Oceania Champions League as, under the current format, two teams from New Zealand qualify.

The spots go to the winners of the minor premiership and grand final respectively but, if both honours are won by the same side, then the second-placed outfit in the regular season will join the champions in taking on Oceania's best.

Auckland take on Waitakere in the second leg of the other semi final on Sunday.

Auckland won the first leg 4-nil.
