Adams should get more recognition

A former Olympic gold medallist has questioned why New Zealand's champion shot-putter Valerie Adams hasn't got more recognition around the world.

As International women's day was celebrated over the weekend, Adams won the world indoor title for a third straight time, to go with her two Olympic and four world outdoor titles.

Adams has regularly been nominated for IAAF athlete of the year, but has never won, the award instead usually going to a high profile track athlete.

The 2000 Olympic heptathlon champion Denise Lewis says Adams should get more credit for her achievements, and unfortunately for Adams, meeting promoters will never put the shot-put high on the bill.
