The New Zealand Breakers have opened their Australian National Basketball League campaign with a 95-75 win over the Cairns Taipans on the North Shore.
The Breakers hit 58 percent of their three-pointers with Kirk Penney hitting a game high 32 points, including 8-of-11 from long range. CJ Bruton had 28 points, with 8-of-9 from beyond the arc.
Former Breakers regular Phill Jones spearheaded the Taipans attack with 24.
The Breakers are considered one of the favourites for the new 8-team competition.
