10-man Phoenix draw 2-2 with Heart

7:22 am on 17 March 2014

The Wellington Phoenix have drawn 2-2 with 10 men at the Melbourne Heart in a thrilling A-League football encounter, that did very little good to the playoff hopes of either side.

The Phoenix were unrecognisable from the side smashed 5-0 four weeks ago by the Heart in Wellington, twice leading at AAMI Park through a first-ever A-League goal from Fiji international Roy Krishna, and another from his All Whites strike partner Tyler Boyd.

The visitors had to play the last hour of the match a man down after defender Ben Sigmund was sent off for accruing two yellow cards in as many minutes.

The Phoenix were also unlucky to be denied a penalty when a goalbound effort from Boyd struck Heart defender Patrick Kisnorbo's arm.

The draw leaves the Phoenix three points off the last playoff place with four games remaining, while the Heart's finals hopes are on life support, needing to win their last four A-League games to have a genuine chance at the post-season.

The Phoenix play at Newcastle next, on Saturday.
