New F1 engines too quiet

Formula One has been threatened with legal action after it's new V6 engines were found to be too quiet.

The chairman of the Australian Grand Prix Ron Walker says he was unhappy with the reduced decibels in Sunday's season opener and has warned Formula One it was in breach of contract.

The race's chief executive Andrew Westacott was among those disappointed - complaining he was able to stand on pit wall without ear plugs.

The sport's commercial boss Bernie Ecclestone says teams could get less money if promoters take legal action.

Formula One ditched the old V8 engines at the end of last season and replaced them with more muted V6 turbo power units.
