Hurrell named in Warriors squad

5:56 am on 19 March 2014

The Warriors have named Konrad Hurrell in their NRL squad for the first time this season, with the centre on an extended bench for this weekend's away match against the North Queensland Cowboys.

Hurrell was a standout for the Warriors last year, scoring 13 tries in the season, but has played in the reserve grade for the last two weeks after arriving overweight for the pre-season.

However the coach, Matt Elliott, says Hurrell's earned his place in the squad after an impressive outing for the New South Wales Cup side.

The captain, Simon Mannering, sat out today's training as he continues to manage a foot injury, but Elliott expects him to be fit to lead the team as they look for their first win of the season in Townsville.

Manu Vatuvei has also been brought back into the side after missing the loss to the Dragons with illness, while Feleti Mateo replaces John Palavi to start at lock.
