The Sri Lankan cricket team has been fined for a slow over-rate during its 38-run defeat to New Zealand in their ICC Champions Trophy match in South Africa.

Javagal Srinath of the panel of ICC Match Referees imposed the fines after Kumar Sangakkara's side was ruled to be two overs short of its target at the end of the match.

In accordance with the ICC Code of Conduct regulations governing over-rate penalties, players are fined five per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount.

As such, Sangakkara was fined 20 per cent of his match fee while his players received 10-per-cent fines.
