World cycling champion Alison Shanks had her track bike stolen.

The bike, worth around $15,000, disappeared from an expo in Christchurch early on Friday morning at some stage during the set for the event.

Bike New Zealand's high performance manager Mark Elliot says the bike is designed to fit Shanks, who won the individual pursuit title at the world champs in in Poland in March and is useless for anyone else.

Elliot says whoever took it will hopefully take drop it at a bike shop in Chrischurch.

The loss is also at a critical time for Shanks with the world cup season only five weeks away and the team holding it's first major training camp in Invercargill next week.
