The veteran basketballer CJ Bruton finished his career with the New Zealand Breakers on a low note as the defending champions lost their end of season dead rubber with the Cairns Taipans, 95-83 at Auckland's Vector Arena.

The 38-year-old, who's won six Australian Basketball titles including three with the Breakers, says the club can return to its former glory.

Meanwhile, Wollongong have booked their place in the Australian Basketball league finals, leaving Sydney out of the post-season in the process, as the Hawks secured a resounding 100-87 win over the Kings at Wollongong Entertainment Centre.
