World triathlete number one Javier Gomez's winning streak in New Zealand has ended.

Gomez was pipped in the men's race at the New Plymouth World Cup by fellow Spaniard Mario Mola.

Portugal's Jaoa Silva was third.

The best-placed local was Aucklander Ryan Sissons in sixth.

Gomez had won five from five here, including the 2012 World Cup final in Auckland.

The American Katie Hursey won her third ITU women's race, leading home Christchurch's Andrea Hewitt by 10 seconds. Hewitt outsprinted the Briton Jodie Stimpson at the line.

Wanaka's Nicky Samuels was the next New Zealander home in sixth, just 49 seconds behind the winner.
