The New Zealand womens cricketers have beaten Australia by 7 runs in their opening match at the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh.

The White Ferns made 128 for 8 with Katie Perkins scoring 31 and Frances Mackay 25, while some big hitting from Nicola Browne late in the innings pushed them past 100.

The New Zealanders then picked up key early wickets to put pressure on the Australians who were eventually bowled out for 121 with 3 balls left.

Browne was named player-of-the-match for her 29 runs and 1 for 11 while bowling.

New Zealand play Ireland tomorrow night.
