Titans overhaul Canbera, Manly pip Eels

5:49 am on 24 March 2014

Halfback Albert Kelly scored two late tries as Gold Coast rebounded from a humiliating loss to produce a heroic defensive effort and claim a 24-12 win over the Raiders in Canberra.

Trailing 12-6 at half-time, the Titans scored 18 unanswered points to clinch their second NRL victory in three rounds.

Kelly crossed in the 78th and 80th minutes to boost his try tally for the season to four.

It was a gutsy effort from the Titans, who were crushed 42-12 at home last week by Wests Tigers.

The Raiders, who were playing their first home game, slipped to a 1-2 record despite having plenty of ball, especially in the second half.

At Brookvale Oval a last-minute try from Steve Matai gave the Manly a 22-18 win over the Parramatta Eels.

Matai grabbed onto a Cheyse Blair bat-down from a Daly Cherry-Evans kick in the 80th minute to deny Parramatta their first away win in 21 matches after the Eels had scored twice to take a 18-16 lead with 6 minutes remaining.

Eels skipper Jarryd Hayne was livid with the refereeing, especially over a couple of contentious late decisions that he claimed went Manly's way.
