Black Caps beaten by South Africa

The New Zealand men's cricketers have been beaten by South Africa by two runs in their latest match at the Twenty20 World Cup in Bangladesh.

Chasing 171 for the win, the Black Caps needed seven off the last over, but Proteas fast bowler Dale Steyn picked up two wickets and ran out Ross Taylor off the last ball to secure the win.

Taylor, who hit three sixes in a row and brought up his fifty from 26 balls, was steering New Zealand to victory but, crucially, was not on strike at the start of the final over.

Steyn dismissed Luke Ronchi with the first ball and Nathan McCullum with the penultimate one to leave Taylor needing three off the final delivery.

The former skipper clipped the ball back to Steyn and the fast bowler, who finished with figures of four for 17, ran him out to wrap up the victory.

The result leaves New Zealand and South Africa with a win each, behind Sri Lanka who beat the Netherlands by nine wickets.

The Dutch were bowled out for a record low of 39.
