The veteran Springbok loose forward Schalk Burger has returned home for treatment on a torn quad muscle which will keep him out of Super Rugby for at least three weeks.

Burger, world rugby's player of the year in 2004, has had a bad run of injuries and he's played just four Super Rugby games in the last two years.

Burger, who turns 31 next month, has seen limited action since he injured a knee in the opening game of the 2012 Super Rugby season.
