Hamilton's Stuart Farquhar has won his 13th straight national men's javelin title, and his 14th in total at the New Zealand Athletics Championships in Wellington.

The 2010 Commonwealth Games silver medallist and 2012 London Olympic finalist was a little short of his absolute best but still proved too good, his best effort of 78.16 metres enough to take the gold medal at Newtown Park.

Canterbury's Fiona Morrison created her own slice of history by becoming the first woman in 42 years to secure the 100 and 100 hurdles double, while Tauranga's Michael Cochrane retained his national title over the 110 hurdles, and Aucklander Siositina Hakeai won the women's discus for a hat-trick of national titles.

Aucklander, Sarah Cowley, landed her third New Zealand title in the women's high jump but missed out on the Commonwealth Games 'B' standard, with three unsuccessful attempts at 1.88 metres.

And yet another Aucklander, Kerry Charlesworth, regained the women's pole vault title she last won in 2011 with a best jump of 3.85 metres.
