Nervous grandfather a champion

A Christchurch motorcycle racer who's a grandfather has clinched the New Zealand Superbike Championship at Manfeild - and Dennis Charlett went slow to make sure of the title.

The 45-year-old, who keeps fit with kick-box training, went into the penultimate day's two races with a big points lead and decided to play it safe to make sure of collecting the points he needed.

Charlett says he was riding at about 90 percent as he placed eighth and sixth on his Suzuki to gain an unbeatable points lead with two races left on Sunday to conclude the championships.
