The New Zealand sevens coach Gordon Tietjens has lavished praise on captain DJ Forbes after the skipper's outstanding performance inspired the men in black to their first Hong Kong title in three years.

After beating Australia 19-7 in the semi-finals New Zealand then outclassed England 26-7 in wet conditions in the final, reclaiming the overall world series lead in the process.

Tietjens says credit must go to Forbes for leading New Zealand to their first Hong Kong crown since 2011.

With two legs remaining New Zealand top the standings with 136 points, seven points ahead of South Africa, with Fiji third.
