Knights into Ford Trophy final

10:51 am on 1 April 2014

The Northern Knights will play in the final of domestic cricket's one-day competition after beating the Canterbury Wizards by four wickets in their preliminary final at Hagley Oval.

Having been convincingly beaten at the same venue last week, the Knights put in a much-improved performance to book themselves a home final.

The Wizards will get the chance to be join the Knights in the final when they face the winner of the 3rd and 4th place preliminary-final, the Wellington Firebirds, on Wednesday at the Basin Reserve.

The Firebirds avenged their loss to the Auckland Aces last week and kept their title hopes alive with a comfortable four wicket victory at Eden Park.

The loss knocks Auckland out of the competition, while the Firebirds will now host Canterbury on Wednesday, with the winner to join the Northern Knights in Saturday's final.
