Black Caps miss out on T20 semis

10:50 am on 1 April 2014

The Black Caps have failed miserably in their bid to make the semi-finals at the Twenty20 Cricket World Cup in Bangladesh, losing by 59 runs to Sri Lanka.

Things looked good for New Zealand after they'd dismissed Sri Lanka for 119, but the Black Caps were dismissed for just 60 in 15 and a half overs, their lowest-ever T20 total.

The Sri Lankan left arm spinner Rangana Herath, playing his first match of the tournament proper, claimed a remarkable five wickets for three runs to see his side join South Africa as the semi-finalists from group one.

Kane Williamson was the only New Zealand batsmen to reach double figures, scoring 42 of their 60 runs.

The Black Caps were a batsman short after their star all rounder Corey Anderson dislocated a finger trying to take a catch.
