The New Zealand women's cricketers have qualified for the 2016 T20 World Cup after beating Sri Lanka by six wickets in a playoff match in Bangladesh.

The White Ferns narrowly missed out on the semi-finals of the current tournament and needed a win today to gain an automatic place in the 2016 tournament.

Sri Lanka made 131 for seven, which New Zealand chased down with six balls to spare with captain Suzie Bates top-scoring with 45.

India also qualified.
