The former Springboks lock Victor Matfield will be touring Down Under with the Bulls - but only as an advisor to the coaching staff.
Matfield has made a successful return to Super Rugby this season as he seeks to play his way back into the South African side for next year's World Cup.
But the Bulls coach Frans Ludeke says Matfield was always going to be rested for the overseas tour which involves games against the Hurricanes and Highlanders here, and the New South Wales Waratahs and Western Force in Australia.
Matfield, who turns 37 next month, will play only in the event of injuries to other squad members.
