New Zealand is set to field its strongest rowing eight for years when a crew brimming with world champions takes on an Australian crew in a one-off race at Surfers' Paradise on Saturday.

The eight to race the Paradise Regatta includes the single scull and pair world champions Mahe Drysdale and Hamish Bond and the under-23 coxless world champions Tyson Williams, Simon Watson, Jade Uru and Hamish Burson.

The recent Gallagher Great Race winners Tobias Wehr-Candler and the Olympic bronze medallist Nathan Twaddle complete the crew while the cox is the under-23 world champion and multiple Maadi Cup winner Matt Cameron.

The coaches are Dave Thompson and Conrad Robertson, with the latter travelling to Australia to oversee the eight in action.
