Cleary warns against NRL rule changes

The Penrith coach Ivan Cleary is warning against making knee-jerk changes to the National Rugby League rulebook following the career-ending injury to Newcastle back-rower Alex McKinnon.

McKinnon is potentially facing paralysis after breaking his neck in a lifting tackle by Melbourne's Jordan McLean last month.

There have been calls from medical experts to take lifting and third-man tackles out of the game as a result of McKinnon's injuries, but Cleary's not convinced the changes would be for the long-term good of the sport.
