Bayern Munich are to admit the Sun newspaper to Thursday's Champions League football match against Manchester United after the British tabloid apologised for what the German club said was an insulting headline.

The Sun, under the headline "Sorry, Bastian," said in its online edition it had not intended to cause offence in a report referring to the sending off of Bayern midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger in the first-leg match which finished 1-1.

The newspaper apologised for any offence the headline 'You Schwein' may have caused Bastian Schweinsteiger in the wake of first leg quarterfinal.

Bayern had said it would not approve accreditations for representatives of the Sun and Daily Mirror for the Champions League match following the headines.

The Daily Mirror carried a similar headline, "You Dirty Schwein".

"Schwein" translates as pig or swine.
