Disqualified Tour de France winner to rider in Tour of Southland

7:08 am on 9 October 2009

The disqualified Tour de France winner, American cyclist Floyd Landis, is to ride in this year's Tour of Southland.

Landis won the 2006 Tour de France but was stripped of the title after returning a positive test for higher than normal levels of testosterone.

He was sacked by his Phonak team and suspended for two years but has all along maintained his innocence.

After serving his suspension he resumed racing this year and will compete for the cyclingnzshop.com-bioSport team in the six day Tour which starts on November 2.
