New Warriors coach wields axe

9:28 am on 9 April 2014

The new Warriors coach Andrew McFadden has been quick to stamp his mark on the team, dumping two players for their National Rugby League clash against the Bulldogs on Sunday.

After being named to replace the sacked coach Matt Elliott on Monday, McFadden was adamant he'd hold players accountable for their performances following their disappointing start to the season.

He's been true to his word, dropping the out-of-form second rower Feleti Mateo and stand-off Chad Townsend to the reserve grade side for the weekend.

Mateo's departure makes way for Sebastine Ikahihifo to start at lock, while the reserve grade forwards Charlie Gubb and David Bhana have been named on an extended interchange bench along with the utility, Dominique Peyroux.

The veteran Thomas Leuluai replaces Townsend in the halves, while a shoulder injury to Glen Fisiiahi means Ngani Laumape will start at wing.
