Sleeping pill problem more prevalent than anticipated

The mixing of sleeping pill and alcohol is more widespread among rugby players than the New Zealand rugby union realised.

All Blacks Israel Dagg and Cory Jane recently admitted to taking a sleeping pill before an unauthorised night on the town during the 2011 world cup.

The NZRU has subsequently asked Super rugby franchises how prevalent the problem is.

The union's general manager of professional rugby Neil Sorensen doesn't believe it's a widespread problem but admits it is more prevalent than they anticipated.

Sorensen says it's not rife but there are pockets of players involved.
