Caddie cops "no sandals" ruling from Augusta

The English amateur golfer Matthew Fitzpatrick has experienced the less flexible side of the Augusta National golf club after the exclusion from the tournament of his caddie for wanting to wear sandals.

19 year old Fitzpatrick's caddie Lorne Duncan can't wear normal shoes because of a foot condition, but the Masters competition committee wasn't prepared to make an exception to the rule that all caddies must wear tennis shoes.

Duncan vented his frustration on Twitter, describing the tournament director as pathetic.

Fitzpatrick, who's the US amateur champion, played down the incident ahead of his debut at Augusta, and he's engaged a Northern Irish caddie who works on the PGA tour.
