The Liverpool football manager Brendan Rogers says his side showed the fortitude of champions after taking a giant stride towards their first title of the Premier League era with a thrilling 3-2 win over title rivals Manchester City.

The win leaves the Reds two points clear of second placed Chelsea, who beat 10-man Swansea 1-nil this morning, with the Blues due to travel to Anfield for a potential title decider in two weeks time.

Liverpool's win came in front of an emotional Anfield, where fans marked the 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster and Rogers praised his side's poise in the late stages of the game.

Third placed Manchester City are now seven points behind Liverpool but have two games in hand.
