NRL admits referee blunder

5:18 pm on 15 April 2014

The National Rugby League has admitted the referees made a mistake in allowing play to continue after the siren in last night's clash between the Melbourne Storm and the St George Dragons.

The Storm won the match 28-24 after scoring a try after the final siren.

However the NRL's referee boss, Tony Archer, has confirmed the match should have been ended before the final play as the siren sounded before the Melbourne player had played the ball.

Archer says the referee got the call wrong by the smallest of margins and says they needed freeze-frame technology to confirm a mistake was made.
